The Goal is Unity: Inter-faith Bicentennial Harmony Soccer Match3 min read

By H. Kang Wei

Last month, together with friends from the Geylang Serai community, Heart of God Church members gathered to have an Inter-Faith Bicentennial Harmony Soccer Match.

In 2018, Heart of God Church members played a friendly Racial Harmony Match together with Khalid Mosque and the Singapore Jain Society. This year, we were joined by even more; the Arab Association Singapore (Alwehdah), Queen of Peace Church as well as the Mandarin Lions Club!

The event was also graced by our Guest-of-Honour, Professor Fatimah Lateef, and local Football hero, Fandi Ahmad!

Professor Fatimah kicked off to start the match and all the players wasted no time getting into the game.

Sick dribbling skills were displayed.

Intense tackles to steal possession.

Beautiful shots were taken.

But most importantly, friends were made!

Though the players came from different religious and racial backgrounds, they gelled together and worked as a team, adapting to each other’s’ traits and abilities to become more than the sum of their parts.

More than just a Soccer Match, it was a special time of getting to know our friends and neighbours in our community. That includes finding out what makes us unique and special – but also what we have in common!

At the end of the day, we are all Singaporeans and one united community!
