“Came Up New” is a celebratory song for Christians getting water baptised.
In early 2024, we crowdsourced 150 videos from 25 countries — all of them capturing a significant milestone in a Christian’s life: their water baptism. Some took place in the ocean, others in pools. Some were young, others old. All had joy on their faces.
It is to celebrate moments like these that Matt Redman and Heart of God Church (HOGC) co-wrote the song, “Came Up New.”

The songwriting team felt that the world could use more songs about the significance of water baptism, and so ‘Came Up New’ was born. Its release was timely, about two months before HOGC’s water baptism weekend in 2024 where the church saw 379 people baptised with the song, from exuberant youths to loving families.

Hearing the church roar with joy in worship, as all of us came together to commemorate the occasion, was unforgettable. It felt like a whole family, standing together as one to celebrate all members who had chosen to publicly declare their faith in Jesus.
More than just a celebration to remember, there was a great significance to it as well — where we all share the same heart to dedicate everything we are to God, putting the past behind and rededicating our lives to serving Him.
