Last week, four of our Heart of God Church leaders were part of The Young Leaders Meet Up. A follow-up from the International Conference on Cohesive Societies (ICCS), it is a platform created by our government for youth leaders from various social and religious groups to address challenges relating to social cohesion.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth with Nominated Member of Parliament Mr Mohamed Irshad present.
Zhong Yi, one of our leaders who had previously attended the ICCS Young Leaders Programme, commented on the night: “Growing up in church, we’ve always been taught to build bridges and not walls. Having an opportunity to be a part of an event like this was insightful for me. The discussion did not just end there. In the days that followed, many of us continued to discuss further how we can contribute and play a part in creating cohesive societies!”
Byoung Seob, a university student at Singapore Management University (SMU), added: “It was an eye-opener for me! Listening to everyone sharing and coming together to plan for greater diversity and social cohesion exposed me to a variety of perspectives. I also love it that our church opened up this opportunity to us. Even as young leaders, we can play a part in impacting our community and our nation together.”
The only representatives from a church, our young people presented on the topic, Diversity through Documentary, contributing ideas on tapping on social media to raise awareness among youths on creating cohesive societies.
HOGC, let’s continue to play our part in creating cohesive societies!
