Last Friday, on Valentine’s Day, the young people of Heart of God Church distributed 300 care packs to healthcare professionals.
These acts of kindness were part of our church’s Heart for Our Heroes initiative. The church also reached out to our friends from different religious groups and clan associations—Khadijah Mosque, Geylang United Temple, Nanyang Leow-Sih Association and Huang Clan Association, to join us in honouring the selfless dedication of our healthcare professionals.
So how did the Heart for Our Heroes initiative start?
Amidst the developing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Singapore, the young people in Heart of God Church (HOGC) created care packs to appreciate their family and friends working in hospitals and polyclinics.
Recognising that even more healthcare professionals and their families could be encouraged through these small acts of kindness, the Heart for Our Heroes initiative was launched to cheer on those holding up the front lines at this critical time.
Within each of the 300 care packs given out, there were an assortment of fruits, Vitamin C and a heartfelt note of encouragement to healthcare professionals at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
The local media got wind of our young people’s acts of kindness and the Heart for Our Heroes initiative was featured on national news outlets like Lianhe Zaobao and Channel 5 News. Our Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Grace Fu and the Inter-Racial Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) shared about our initiative on social media too. SGUnited, a government website that celebrates community efforts, featured the Heart for Our Heroes initiative on their webpage too.
We are so happy to see that it encouraged the healthcare professionals at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital too! We hope it will help reach and inspire more people to show love and encouragement to those working on the front lines!
