Youth Camp 2019 – Reflections of a HOGC Youth2 min read

By: Stefan T.

Camps – something youths look forward to the most! Whether it’s an outdoor camp or a school camp, we love the chance to spend time with our friends! As a youth, I can testify to that!

However, this story isn’t about any ordinary camp, but a life-changing one! Come on, let’s take a look at what went down during the epic 3 days of Youth Camp 2019!

GAMES

First, let’s take a look at the games! To kick off Youth Camp, we had indoor station games.

We got REALLY creative with the games indoors

After each station game ended, many of the youths who participated kept raving about how fun the games were; one of them was Battleship!

Then, the action went outdoors!

REVIVAL NIGHTS

The games during the day were great, but the parts of Youth Camp that all of us were looking forward to the most were Revival Nights with our pastors, Pastor How and Pastor Lia.

We would remember these special services for the moments that inspired and changed us. This was especially true for the many who were attending Youth Camp for the first time! The messages preached and testimonies shared challenged us to grow in our character and Christian walk, to live others-centred lives.

LEADERSHIP

Youth Camp was only a success because of the amazing planning team comprised mainly of youths between the ages of 13 to 17.

Though we are young, we are believed in, trained us, and given many opportunities to take charge of things in the church. That includes camps!

Everything, from the logistics to the games and the programming, was entrusted to us!

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

Personally, this youth camp felt different from the previous camps that I was involved in planning! Experiencing the camp as a camper felt fun and exciting as I was anticipating everything the Planning Team had in mind for us. It was also my first time leading a team within our houses.

After the revival nights, I also felt really recharged, energised and ready to go back into the 2nd quarter of the school year. I can’t wait to make a difference in the lives of those around me and am challenged to grow to a new level in my relationship with God!
